AVSI - Adults Engaged in the Work

AVSI Foundation is a non-governmental not-for-profit organization founded in 1972 and engaged in hundreds of projects of development cooperation in some forty countries around the world (Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Asia). It operates in various sectors: health, sanitation, care of children in difficult conditions, education, vocational training, upgrading of poor urban areas, agriculture, environment, small businesses, food safety, and emergency relief.

AVSI’s mission is to support human development in the poorest countries in the world following the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church, with particular attention to education and promotion of human dignity in all its forms.
AVSI has been recognized in 1973 by the Italian Foreign Ministry as a non-governmental organization for international cooperation (NGO) and since 1996 is accredited with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations in New York (ECOSOC); it is registered as International Organization by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and has received various other recognitions.

For its actions, AVSI spends over 25 million Euros per year, half contributed by Institutions, European Union, UN agencies, the Italian Foreign Ministry, Italian local authorities; and half by private donors, corporations, foundations, individuals and families. AVSI’s report is certified and since 2003 the Social report presents the results achieved with the resources collected.

Since a few years, during the whole Christmas period AVSI’s well-known “Tents,” a public awareness campaign and fundraising, vivify the downtown of many cities and towns, in Italy and abroad, through hundreds of events realized by more than 10,000 volunteers.
AVSI is also an Approved Body to deal with international adoptions recognized by the Commission for International Adoptions of the Italian Government.
